Editable Character Sheet?

posted Aug 18, 2012 20:26:35 by VaughanCockell
Hi. There was a stated intention of producing an editable pdf of the character sheet back when the pdf of the game came out. Is this still the case, and how is the production of this going?

Wow, auto weapon lookup? That's a nice feature for us lazybums :) we'll check it out asap, but this coming weekend we're using v4/5, as everybody has just entered their sheet and they have no need to do that again as their weapons habe already been entered.

Hmm,I've just noticed that in your sheet, the strike rank penalty is derived from the AP the character is wearing. However the rules (p136) states that the penalty is derived from the encumbrance of the armour. This allows higher quality materials to have an advantage over the low quality materials (which compensates by bulk).

Anyways this sheet is solid, I've decided to use your sheet over the other offerings in my games due to ease of use. Thanks for the effort invested in these sheets, cheers.

Oh and your "Encumbrance from armour" of second page derives directly from AP as well. Remember, worn armour encumbrance is half that of unworn (p117) due to unwieldly distribution of bulk rather than weight. (note only applies to carrying capacity, use full encumbrance in case of strike rank penalty)

Hi Neil,
I'll look into the armour / strike rank / enc issue.
Thanks for the heads up

Has anyone made a sheet on Google Docs, all these nice form-fillable sheets are a bit wonky on Linux unfortunately?

I've updated the fillable character sheet

1) it fixes the Encumbrance from Armour. This is now derived from a new "Armour" list beneath the Equipment section. The Armour Penalty is calculated from the Encumbrance from Armour, and the SR is modified by the Armour Penalty, not the Armour Points. I think my original problem is that I noted down AP in my brain, which I understood to be Armour Points.

2) I added in the Centaur - Panthotaur cultures to the dropdown. Halflings are counted as Civilized (though the option is there in the list) and Elves *I think* have the same base skills as Civilized.

Regarding a charsheet on Google Docs. There are a huge lot of Javascript calculations for my fillable sheet and I don't want to think about doing them again for a spreadsheet. So I'll leave this up to someone else.

BTW, I found that iPad app "PDF Expert" works quite well for the charsheet. Some of the popups don't actually popup so you have to remember to manually fill in your combat style on pg 4. My usually-preferred GoodReader doesn't support the calculations of the sheet very well.

Wow, I appreciate your effort in making the character sheet. Going for the full roll out of this version in my gaming group. Thanks again. *pats Afon y Bydysawd on the back*

I can second that goodreader is struggling with the calculations, but we have a dedicated pc + printer next to the gaming table now and have been fully converted, using a printed version during play, and updating the online version between sessions, now I just have to get them over to v7 - meaning copying all the data and we're on track again.

When playing - and thus not generating PCs - do you enter additional skill % from training and improvement rolls in the bonus column? We think about doing it that way, but I wonder how you are currently handling it.

@NeilFong: Thank-you both for the pats on the back and for noticing the armour penalty miscalculation. Please let me know if there is anything else wrong.

@RudyBoe: The only thing that has changed for you would be the Strike Rank calculation. You could simply ignore the "Original SR" value and fill in the "Current SR" value manually. But if you're anything like me, the bug in the character sheet would gnaw on your attention. I hope there is no need for a new version based on poor programming on my part. I do see new versions/variants being made available as the supplements and settings roll out from tDM, and for anything Gloranthic I would appreciate help as I'm not familiar with the setting.

Yes, I use the Bonus Column for any character advancement - it just wasn't worth cluttering up the calculation page with another set of columns. Also, once character generation is complete, it's not so important *where* the % points came from, so the bonus column works fine. And as a side effect, by looking at the negative value of the "Bonus Points Left" counter and see how many improvement points you've earned over your character's life.

Yes, we can live with that. We had not noticed yet, because nobody had any armor apart from one leather hauberk, but meanwhile some people ordered lamellar armor so we will need to check that. My players adore the new system, always a clean sheet, better for me too coz I can read what they have on their sheet, I remeber having discussion where they thought theey had 80 something percent and it turned out to be 50 something :)

I use Google docs extensively as the archive and source of all my RP files. As such it has logs of the original character files, if the player needs to look up the original skill points selected. So for me I agree and extra line is cluttering the sheet.

I also noticed that the equipment encumbrance no longer automatically sums into the total encumbrance box.

Damn. I'll get on that.

OK. The encumbrance seems to be working now with 7.1
