October News

posted Sep 30, 2012 23:56:08 by lawrence.whitaker
Been a while since I sent out a news bulletin, so here's an update on where we're at.

First, thank you to everyone who has bought a copy of RQ6. Sales have been very good, and we're close to exhausting our first print-run. Sales have, at least, met our expectations, and its great to be in a position to continue the line, which was always our key goal.

Second, Errata. We will produce an official errata document in PDF shortly. I've deliberately held-off doing this as little errors continue to trickle in. The Errata document will fix the small things people have flagged-up, and when we come to issue a second print, the master files will be updated with all fixes.

Next, Star Wars Hack. You can expect this imminently. Its laid-out, proofed, and awaiting a final check before going live. 48 hours or so from this post. Oh, and it's completely free. Just like RQ Firearms.

Fourth, future releases. Its a toss-up between whether Monster Island or Book of Quests will be released first, but we're aiming for end of year for both books. Its possible Book of Quests will be delayed a little, meaning a January 2013 release, and this is due mainly to the amount of cartography required. However, both books are due to fo through editing and artwork is already commissioned. We hope to share cover illustrations (by messrs Quidault and Hodgson) in the next few weeks.

Finally, what do we have planned for 2013? Well, there will be the Super-Secret licensed game for one, and I'll reveal its title as a Christmas Present to our customers and supporters. We will also be working on Mythics Briton, Greece and Constantinople. We should also be able to give some definitive news on our Glorantha plans too. There is a Dream Team in the assembly to work on the Glorantha material and although it won't see release until 2014, it should be worth the wait.

In short, lots happening. Its been a good year for RQ and Design Mechanism and we look forward to more success and great books.

This is just a thought... Your game is your game, and Your Glorantha May Vary. I think your players will greatly appreciate *your* version of the setting with the personalized touches that really work for you and your group. Official documents are great resources, but the only "official" that matters is the way you interpret the resources that are available. If it’s not exactly the same, I’d say that’s actually a very good thing.

You are correct. And meanwhile we are playing, rather than waiting, which is good too. And I'm happy it is coming, better late than never. I'm just gonna focus on the new Moon Design guide to Glorantha that is due end of the year.

Will Mythics Greece develop the world of Meeros or does it merely lay the foundation for a Meeros type world? I really like the feel of Meeros: warriors in Hoplite armor, centaur tribes, Minotaurs, etc. Actually, any ancient mythic Greek world would be great. Will Mythics Greece include traditional Greek gods such as Apollo, Poseidon, Zeus, and Aphrodite? Will mythic greek creatures not included in the rule book, such as hydras, medusa, satyrs, nymphs, etc. be included?

Mythic Greece will be focussed on the historical Mycenaean period, but combining it with the mythic gods and creatures of the Iliad, Odyssey, Argonautica and so on.

Like my Rome and Viking books there will be guidelines for running straight historical campaigns, supernatural campaigns (magic and monsters) and full blown demi-god campaigns.

Would love to see a few sample NPCs statted out for RQ6, quick-&-dirty rogues gallery, varying power levels. What’s the skill sets of a legion commander, for example? Proficiencies of a minor satrap, etc. Maybe some rules-of-thumb on how to generate these in a hurry.

Perhaps with some pre-Thera Eruption Minoan goodness thrown in for some "Atlantean" adventure?

Okay I'm going to have a wild guess at the licence you guys are working on. It is interesting that Fantasy Flight Games recently revived their web pages for the OOP Midnight Rpg setting. I think it would be a great fit for Runequest because it is a gritty and relatively low magic setting with the opportunity to really showcase the different magic systems.

Oh and if it is something else .... Please also consider looking at the Midnight Rpg.

I just want to remind everyone that Loz has promised to reveal stuff in december.
So, I'll be monitoring this board during the weekend.. Cough, ahem.

In other news, RPG.net has nice words to say about RQ6:
