RQ6 via Play by Post

posted Dec 12, 2012 20:17:24 by jackpersona42
Hey!

Is anyone running a game using the RQ6 rules via play by post? If so, how's it going? Got any openings?

I'd be keen to play in such a game, or even GM one if I can conquer my world-builder OCD long enough to either pick an established setting or crib together a less than fully fleshed out generic fantasy world. Anyone else interested in such things?

Been looking this over myself and wondering the same thing. A good headstart might be to use the city state from the book. It is in the Gm download, map and all.

Simulacrum (the author of the Age of Treason books) is running an AoT game using Legend over at RPOL.net - search the open games for one's that aren't necessarily accepting new players, but are using Legend as the system, and you'll find it. Might be useful for seeing how things go PbP.

Thank ya. I have had little luck with Rpol, it seems very hit and miss and I am not a huge fan of the interface, but I shall look all the same.

I've heard good things about myth-weavers, but never played there. There isn't much of a d100 community there at all.

I have had luck at Mythweavers, mostly with 40k games. But year most of that sight is D&D with a smigging of others. I have yet to find any sight with a strong d100 community, although I am new to d100 myself.

Perhaps it falls to us to either start our own, or colonize one of the existing spots - Myth-Weavers, RPOL, PenandPaperGames, RPG.net, somewhere that already has a critical mass of gamers, perhaps?

I run two pbp on mythweavers and two over at paizo all non d100 games. I have had luck with RPGnet as well. I have never tried penandpaper games. But yes that seems to be the best way is pick one and see if you can gain the interest. I do worry on RQ's combat in pbp format.

Yeah, got no action at all at myth-weavers. 79 views, not a single comment!

I'd be willing, actually quite eager to run a play by post RQ6 game, though as mentioned above, I do have some reservations about running the combat via post, given how many on-the-spot options can arise. Still, it shouldn't be that hard, as long as all are patient.
Don't be alarmed. Nothing to see here. Move along.

One could require one's players to agree to have a high endurance that is fortified by a passion for PBM, combining for a 95+% effective weekly chance of impatience avoidance. Their actual characters wouldn't, of course, need to have better than normal human endurance.

Personally, I'd be willing to give up the immedicacy of my choices in combat if it speeds play considerably.

For example, I might state, "Krull casts the entire contents of his bag of marbles down the corridor, arms himself with a wooden club and a wooden shield, then uses his gorp combat style of 67% against the broo with the gorp arm. When the broo is prone, he'll command three of his war dogs to finish it. Krull's double special effect would be to stun the gorp arm. Krull's single special effect would be to trip the monster.

After a statement of intent, the GM rolls the initiative, rolls Krull's acrobatics for fighting marbles-top, and so runs the combat, possibly, all the way until initiative would need be re-rolled, such as after the broo is dead or after the war dogs have been commanded to take over the engagement. If Krull started to lose, the GM could ask me for a new statement of intent for Krull, in which case, "Krull'll release the genie, Boo, and command it to make broo sauce, 'Food-mill the Broo, Boo'"

At the end of the engagement, the GM would then describe what has transpired to all of the players and ask me for my new statement of intent for Krull. "Krull casts the entire content of a bag of salt on the first dragon snail, and then arms himself with his greathammer to use his oyster combat style of 85%, on the one-headed dragon snail, which he charges from behind. Double SE, sunder shell. Single SE, stun.

I've never played by mail, though, so take my suggestion with a bag of salt. Hopefully, one could want to GM this way without a Gantt chart.

'Food-mill the Broo, Boo'

Boo should always go for the eyes.
