Book of Quests Cover

posted Dec 22, 2012 23:03:17 by lawrence.whitaker
The News page has the cover for Book of Quests, featuring Pascal Quidault's superb artwork.

The contributors to Book of Quests are regulars here at the Design Mechanism forums: Tom Griffith, Bruce Mason, Russell Hoyle, Keane Peterson, Jon Webb, John White, and Marko Vojvonic. With maps and art by Colin Driver, Carl Pates and Dan MacKinnon, this will be an exciting release: seven very different, very original scenarios complete with a ready made background, or capable of being dropped into just about any campaign world.

Wow, I really like that cover - and 7 quests as well Sold!

Side question, there are a lot of setting books coming out of RQ6, what with the mythic ones and Glorantha. Would you say RQ6 has a default setting, perhaps Glorantha, or are you going to promote something else?

I would love to see a setting book come out for David Gemmell's Drenai series

@Tom It's like Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. There's always one of us dwarves getting overlooked* by our glorious leader. (Mind you, I never want to see Loz cross-dressed...)

*Being overlooked is a common problem for dwarves

We're trying to steer clear of 'default' settings because that can put people off a game. So no, there is no default setting for RQ6.

Pete would, too.

I've just pciked up Waylander, the first book chronologically, and the intent is to go through all the books taking notes as I go along. I've got headings such as People, Places, etc. For example

Main themes
Characters struggling with their inner demons, their passions.

Characters/Peoples
Waylander the slayer

Dardalion the source priest

Egel: Most able bodied general of his age. A northerner.

The Vagrian hounds of chaos: a cruel band of 20 warrior/mercenaries. Trained killers. They wear blue cloaks fastened over black breastplates.

Vagrians: blood thirsty

The brotherhood: dark priests serving the prince of lies, the creator of chaos

Nadir: savages in the steppes and outlands

Nomads: of the desert

Places
Drenan: "...a pleasant city with many libraries."

The temple at Sardia for source priests. Temple school. Dardalion’s father lived 5 miles from there in his cliff top villa. Vagrians burned Sardia. Abbot.

Skoda: location of the mountain monastery. It was burned by the Vagrians as well.

Ventria: across the sea. Where Waylander’s crossbow was made. It looses 2 bolts over 20 feet.

Things
Mystic/source priests: can ‘see’ or ‘know’ things just by touching objects. They can travel astrally to any place and time. They place soothing hands on people and invoke the ‘prayer of peace’ resulting in peaceful sleep. Visions. Acolyte at 15 years of age. Astral combat.

Source priests don’t eat/taste anything with blood as they believe it carries the soul.

Fate: is cruel

Souls: the soul exists.

Lemon balm: shield shaped leaves that give off a lemony fragrance when crushed. Used to wash with.

Wish me luck

The cover of Book of Quests looks gorgeous. What are the horned creatures?

They're chaos hybrids.

Lovely people!

Cover looks great!
Looking forward to seeing more examples of how adventures for RQ6 are structured.

So, we can we place our orders for the two products? And, will it be via Moon Design?

Hi John,

As with the core rules, I'll open pre-orders once Book of Quests goes to the printer. There will be a bundle deal for both BoQ and Monster Island, although Monster Island will be released after Book of Quests, so I want to ensure that I manage expectations properly as the two titles won't ship together.

Price-wise we're looking at $20 for the hard copy and about $8 for the PDF on its own. You'll get the PDF free if you buy the hardcopy.

Book of Quests is in its final stages of production. Most of the layout is done and proofing is underway. I'm confident that I'll be sending the files to the printer by mid-February with the book being available from end of Feb. The PDF will be available earlier.

Good question about availability via Moon. Most likely it will; Moon's store software is very good and it gives me the facility to offer combo deals on RQ6+BoQ+MI and any combination thereof. In time, we'll develop our own store, but for now, our partnership with Moon Design works very well.
