Caravan: Book of Quests Preview

posted Jan 20, 2013 13:22:25 by lawrence.whitaker
The downloads page now contains a complete scenario taken from 'Book of Quests'. Keane Peterson's Caravan sees the characters joining Jhonen's caravan as it winds its way north to the town of Aylesford. There, a grim discovery is made that signals the return of an ancient evil. But who is behind this dreadful plot?

Join the Caravan to find out...!

Just starting to read it, but the mention to the several brands of BRP fantasy in the first page is excellent. I would love to see this happening more often, the companies producing BRP-derived games cross-selling their products. And, as I said before, I would love to see a d100 logo on the cover of all of them...

Nice, lots of interesting and useful ideas in there.

One small remark: page 15, in the box "Handling the massacre", at the beginning of the third line, 'Ever character …' should be 'Every character …' .

I really like the new, compact, stat blocks for NPCs and creatures. The formatting in the PDF sample does seem a bit inconsistent though -- I suspect that's stuff to be noticed and fixed up before publication.

I notice also that the Thorsen Thugs on page 21 are missing their 'Action Points' entry in their stat block; I assume it's 2?

I'm looking forward to the final product, so I can order one. And also the hardcover of the rulebook, because I'd really like to have it in hardcover.

No, the inconsistencies are deliberate. You'll notice that the stat blocks that don't need characteristics (ie, minor NPCs and creatures) require less column width, and so the accompanying text tends to be wider. Conversely major NPCs have a narrow narrative box and wider stat block. The inconsistencies are actually consistent!

Good spot! Yes, its 2.

There will be a print copy of the book in softcover. Hardcovers will be part of our Get RQ into Harcover Kickstarter as one of the stretch goals.

Yes -- I agree, for content in the blocks, those differences do seem reasonable and sensible. What I was thinking of, and should have been more specific about, was that the use of italic text seems inconsistent in the different blocks. For example, in some blocks, the list of skills is all in Italics, and in some, not.

I suspected that in one or two cases, the "Italics tag" hadn't been properly closed, that's all.

I'm pretty happy to have RQ6 supplementary books as softcovers; it's the rulebook itself that I'm most interested in with a hardcover, just because I imagine that I'll be using it a lot at the table.

Thanks!

My group has just decided that they want to try Runequest and I've decided to use Caravan as the initial adventure. It looks great.

Hi there,

while GMing it on Saturdai, I noticed that the Chaos Hybris is missing the stealth skill. Makes is extreme hard to play hide and seek with the SCS.
