Design Mechanism Online Store Now Open

posted Jan 27, 2013 21:44:15 by lawrence.whitaker
The online store tools have been improved and so we've decided to go live, allowing you to order any of our products direct from us. See the Products page for details.

When you order a print-copy book you'll also be offered the PDF download free of charge.

Having our own store helps reduce our costs and manage the ordering process much more efficiently. You can still order through Moon Design of course, but for new products, such as the forthcoming Book of Quests and Monster Island, we'll be hosting orders here first.

Really glad to see you've got your own store up and running! I didn't exactly have a great experience ordering from Moon Design (shipment timing/tracking was poorly communicated, if at all), so I'm hoping that ordering Book of Quests or Monster Island from you directly will be beneficial to both of us.

Right now, I'm not too sure about the interface you've got, as far as clarity and usability. For example, (using Firefox) I don't see the Runequest book cover until after I click on the word "Runequest" or the camera icon above it (which may indicate a missing picture that should be there?). It's also not totally clear what you're even supposed to click on to select that product in the first place, though I suspect that will get easier once you have more than one product in the store.

Anyway, good luck with the new storefront. RQ6 has kept me extremely entertained for the past six months, and I can't wait to buy more material for it!

The interface is certainly... quirky. I too get the camera icon. If you click on the word RuneQuest beneath that icon, it does pull-up the product's image and description. Clicking on the image then shows you stock, price and 'Add to Bag', so it does work. I'm not sure why the camera icon is there instead of the RQ cover; nothing I've fiddled with seems to change it, but I've run about a dozen test orders through the system and it provides very good confirmation to the recipient and us as the store managers.

But yes. Quirky. When we have more money, we'll have the entire website redesigned and have a funky shop system added. But it don't come cheap...!

Now we just need the pre-orders for Book of Quests and Monster Island up and we can test it :)

Will the two new books arrive sorta at the same time? It would be nice getting the PDFs as they come, but having the physical copies shipped together to save on shipping.

But looking good. The interface is quirky as you say... and it's kinda.... disturbing, having it in ones own language embedded into the city. Kinda like Cthulhu is about to jump out of the screen.

We will put together a dual-deal, but the release dates will be separate: the two books are moving at different rates, with BoQ a few weeks ahead of MI.

I've only tested it in English but I did know that languages are embedded, so sorry to have caused such a disturbance!
