posted Feb 16, 2013 18:14:42 by lawrence.whitaker
M. Alfonso Garcia has produced an excellent Spanish translation of the GM's Pack. Its free for download and we hope all our Spanish speaking friends will like this addition to the Downloads page. Alfonso is working on a Spanish translation of the core rules too, and we hope to bring you more news on its availability in the near future.

Our sincere thanks to Alfonso for his hard work!

Disfrutar!

Yes, we are. Both French and Spanish translations are in the works. The Spanish translation is a little ahead of the French, but both will see publication.

There is, indeed, a problem with the host's server. The file is uploaded, but isn't being made available for download by the host. I've put in a service request and hope to have this available today.

In the meantime, if people would like to email me through the contacts pack, I can send the GM's Pack that way.

Problem solved. The pack is now downloadable.

How soon will the Spanish book be available?

It will be a while. I'll post more news as the publication time moves closer. We are certainly talking a couple of months, at least.

Will be it another book to buy?

Yes. Most likely PDF only.

Wow. Great news. Once upon a time there were here in Spain a lot of Runequest fans... but most of them didn't speak english so Runequest has been slowly fading away. The last edition of Runequest in Spanish was in middle nineties more or less. Now, if the rules are published in spanish again I guess a lot of old players would come back to the table.

Great, great news indeed.

Fun fact: My first introduction to RQ (and role-playing games) was the Spanish versions when I moved to Spain as a young whipper-snapper. I'm sure it helped me learn Spanish as quickly as I did.

Looking back at it, the Spanish covers tended to be more "graphic" than the English ones.
I'm surprised my mom never said anything, seeing as at age 11 I owned the core rulebook in Spanish (woman with exposed breasts) as well as 'El Abismo de la Garganta de la Serpiente' (full frontal male nudity).

What will the Spanish artists do with Anathaym? ;-P

Nothing - as we'll be publishing the translation, all existing art will be used. If a third party Spanish publisher was doing this under license, then it might be different; but that isn't what's happening.

So Anathaym will remain unmolested.. :-)

Actually, while on the subject of covers (and apologising for the slight thread derail):

Have you considered sharing any of the excellent cover art (Anathaym, or the Monster Island/BoQ ones) in a format suitable for desktop or tablet wallpaper (with a big RQ logo of course)... assuming it's possible re: format of original piece and/or license. I for one would use it :)

Best,

Dan

Answering two separate questions in the same post. Gran first.

Will there be a discount if we bought the original english edition?

I don't know if this will be possible yet. Financing details have to be worked out. If we can (ie, it isn't a logistical nightmare and financially viable) we will. But I make no guarantees.

Yes. In fact, the RQ cover is still my desktop image. We don't have time to reformat the cover art pieces for use as wallpapers and backgrounds, but when we do, we'll let people know and host them here.

Even today, some JOC's books are notorius. My copy was of the early editions and was quite normal. After several years there was a change in JOC's artists and many things changed a lot, like the books you mention. "Daughters of the Night" and "Snake Pipe Hollow" suffered a lot of this change, for example. Personally, I never liked that change in art. Fortunatelly, no current Spanish artista (that I know) continues that style. An example of some of our new artists:

Thank you, Jordi. I know Gloranthahispana and I usually visit that website. We can talk more there if you want.

Congratulations and thanks for your hard work. Both, to Pete and Loz, for MRQ2e and this piece of love to the RuneQuest community that is RuneQuest 6e, and to Alfonso García for this amazing translation.
